How to water your plants while you are on vacation

What will happen if you don’t water your plants?

We all know that plant needs water to grow and rise. However, what will happen if you don’t water them. Well, not watering the plants for few hours is harmless but if you don’t water them for a day or two, then there will be consequences like:

  • The plants will lose all the nutrients and moisture.
  • As the roots get dry, they couldn’t hold the plant for a much longer time.
  • The leaves become yellowish and pale.
  • The plant will die due to dryness and lack of water.

How to water the plants smartly while you are away?

Now, you can overcome the above situation and save your plants by following these methods. These few methods will help you to water your plants for few days while you are on a vacation or a business trip. So let’s find out.

  1. Glass bottle Solution
    This solution is one of the easiest methods to water the plants for around 5 days. In this method, you just need a glass bottle now it can be a wine bottle or any glass bottle. Fill the bottle with water and then dug a hole in the roots. Put the bottle in the hole and cover it with the roots and make sure that you put some holes in the bottle cap for the water to run.

    Now the roots will get all the necessary water they need to survive and to keep them moist. You can reuse the bottle and try them on another plant too. The duration depends on the plants that how much water they need to grow.
  2. Water wicking drip method
    For this method, you just need a cotton string and a vase or bucket filled with water. Place one side of the string in the bucket while place the other on the roots of the plants. The water will keep going from the vase to the roots slowly and it will keep watering your plants slowly for at least 1-2 weeks.
  3. Plant Saucer setup
    This setup is best for only succulent plants or cacti that don’t need much water. first, you need a saucer of the same size as the pot. Fill the saucer with water and put the pot with drainage holes on the saucer. The water will go through the drainage holes to the roots and the plant will get a sufficient amount of water to grow.
